Everyone loves a burger, well except if you are a vegetarian then you won't like these, they're easy and quick to make and fill that hole in your belly come lunch time.
Makes 6 burgers.
750g mince beef (Use mince that has a medium amount of fat, or the burgers will be dry)
1 large onion
2 cloves fresh garlic
2 small chilli (Birds eyes are great here)
1 tablespoon (The ones you eat your breakfast with) of Worcestershire sauce
1 cup breadcrumbs (If you dont have breadcrumbs, throw some bread in a blender and blend until it looks like, well, er, breadcrumbs)
Salt and pepper
1 egg
Olive oil
6 hamburger buns (Get these from your corner bakery and they will be fresh and yum)
6 slices cheese
2 ripe, medium tomatoes
Sauce (It's up to you, ranch, tomato, BBQ, chipotle, sweet chilli)
6 lettuce leaves
1. Slice your tomatoes. Cut the onion up finely. Peel the garlic and cut it up finely. Cut the chiili up finely. Cut the hamburger buns in half. Shred the lettuce leaves. Put all of this aside, keeping seperate.
2. Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it up.
3. Put the mince, onion, chilli, Worcestershire sauce, egg, breadcrumbs and a pinch of salt and pepper into a bowl and mix it up with your (clean) hands until it is well combined.
4. From the mixture you made at step 3, above, divide into 6 equal portions, and roll into balls. Put a dash of olive oil onto the bottom of a tray, spreading it all over the bottom of the tray and put the 6 mince balls onto the tray and flatten each with your hand until they look like burger patties, about 10cm across.
5. Cover the tray containing the patties with clingwrap and place into the refrigerator for about 45 minutes
6. Using either the BBQ or a frying pan (Mad Mick reckons the BBQ is best) cook your hamburger patties on a medium heat for about 4 minutes on each side. If you're cooking in the frying pan, splash some olive into the pan first.
7. After turning each patty, cook for about 2 minutes, before putting a slice of cheese on top of each. This will slightly melt the cheese.
8. Lay out the bottom burger buns and onto each place a cooked burger patty, a few slices of tomato, some shredded lettuce, a pinch of salt and pepper and finally a drizzle of your favourite sauce.
9. Put the top burger bun on top and get into it.
